Hottrax Track Day - August
The Too Fast crew have just
come back from yet another track day, this time we went to
Lydden with Hottrax,
we also hired a Suzuki GSXR750. The whole process was very
simple on their website, I simply chose the day, added the
option to hire a bike and that was it, sorted.
There are other options available, like suspension
set up & photography.
Hottrax certainly lived
up to their name on that day, you may remember that hot day
in August as the hottest day of the year, and on one of the
shortest twiddly tracks in the UK, we knew it was going to
be a scorcher.
Local residents near Lydden
don't share my passion for race cans and don't allow any on-track
action on a Sunday until 12:30, so I got a lie in before heading
to the track. I signed on for the advanced group and went
to check out the bike I had hired for the day, a Suzuki GSXR
750.

The bike was prepped and
ready to go. Standard engine, plenty quick enough for a track
day, race can & Michelin race tyres. After warning me
about the restricted amount of steering lock available, I
popped the bike through scrutineering.
Next came the briefing,
nice & clear, and for those who haven't been to Lydden
or for track day first timers an additional briefing.

Pretty soon we are being
called for the first advanced session, so I put on my brand
new MJK leathers, and got in line with the others, and
then out on the circuit, after three laps it was OK to overtake
people. It has been a very long time since I was last at Lydden
and being on a strange bike I took it steady for the first
session, the standard of riding was very good with faster
men passing me cleanly. I would recommend if you are a fairly
fast rider go for the advanced group, the standard of riding
is generally higher and therefore safer.
Overall it was a fantastic
day, the new leathers fitted really well and the cooling holes
in the chest area made the heat just bearable, the bike behaved
faultlessly, the organisation was very good, with plenty of
warning when your next session was due. Any on-track incidents
were dealt with quickly and riders were back on track ASAP.
