Trans Continental Touring
You've no doubt see TV series about Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's trip “Long Way Round” and thought I would love to do that, but I can’t spare the time, how about two days from UK to Greece, then Istanbul two days later then take in Athens and the Swiss Alps on the way home, all in 10 days.

OK Its not around the world but you get to ride in two continents and ride in places most of your mates can only dream about.
Early Chunnel train into France, overnight stop in Basel, Switzerland.
Next day on the road early heading South towards the Swiss Alps, instead of the motorway route through endless mountain tunnels, I detour part of the way onto the old St Gottard pass, a tight & twisty route paved with cobble stones with lots of gravel patches to catch out the unwary. Later I make a pilgrimage to the god of all motorcyclist and stop for coffee at Valentino Rossi's home town of Tavullia. Then onto the afternoon ferry at Ancona, Italy. Wake up next morning in Greece. 48 Hours UK to Greece, amazing. |
The pace slows down from now on, after a leisurely two day ride across Greece and into Turkey, I arrive in Istanbul.
After two days in Istanbul I head South, to the battle site at Gallipoli, then a short ferry over the Bosphorus straits, visiting the site of Troy. A day later after taking in some amazing historic sites including Ephesus, I get an overnight ferry to Athens, and take in the Parthenon at the Acropolis.
Then another overnight ferry from Patras to Ancona, Northern Italy and a overnight stop then over the incredible Furka Pass through the Swiss Alps before heading home.
