SuperMotoStunt Riding

Jezza got into stunt riding long before the current batch of loons you see on the TV, check out the clip below as Wing Commander Jezza riding in the Royal Tournament, thrashing the Army team as he rides a standard military dispatch riders Can-Am over a tricky obstacle course.

Jeremy at speed on a CCM Super MotoFencing

Took up fencing to sharpen my reflexes for bike racing, within 2 years I was a member of the Great Britain National Squad competing in the World Cup.

Epee rules are quite simple, hit your opponent anywhere, before he gets you and you get a point. Hits are recorded electronically and a tiny flick of the epee probably wont get a hit, you have to thrust the thing into this arm or chest to guarantee a point. The basics are quite easy to learn, but to get anywhere in competitions you will need to join a good club and have lots of lessons.

At first you can get by on quick eye-hand coordination, but to win the bigger competitions you have to go to the next level and fence faster than you can see.

You might wonder how this is possible, well you use your epee as a sort of early warning radar, feeling where your opponents blade is. The sense of touch is much faster than sight alone and this allows you to carry out moves at blinding speed that your opponent cannot see. This qualifies fencing as a Too Fast For You activity.

The Too Fast crew's would be D'Artagnan won over a dozen UK open competitions and a Commonwealth Silver & Bronze medal in men's epee.

For the Bionic ones amongst you you might want to consider Modern Pentathlon, which includes fencing, show jumping, cross country running, swimming and pistol shooting.

Skiing

Ski resorts are getting tuned in to the Extreme lifestyle, as well as the normal Snow boarding, you can go Paragliding, and at the more switched on locations during the summer you can turn up with your downhill mountain bike take the ski lift to the top of the mountain and hurtle back down.

I am a regular skier and most years I try to spend a week in Switzerland. There is a good slope on Mont Fort, up the back of Verbier, you have to take a cable car to the top. The view is fantastic. Interestingly there is a warning sign at the top, a small section in French & German, but a huge section in English warning if you go off piste your insurance will be invalid and you will not be found, hmmmm must have known I was in the area.

I have entered a few Downhill & Giant Slalom races, if you think you can ski try racing and you will soon realise how difficult is is to cut it in Ski racing.

Don't think its not dangerous, in one accident I needed 10 stitches in my knee. In another I actually wrote off a brand new top of the range ski boot, both accidents required a trip to hospital, so make sure you have good medical insurance.

Adrenalin Factor: 15%
- Yooodlleeeeee

Injury Factor: 25% - I get a bit bored skiing normally, it may look like fluffy snow but if you ski like I do, you will hurt yourself. I have been ambulanced off the slopes to hospital twice.
Expense Factor: 40%
- You can hire the kit at most resorts, but the travel and hotel gets expensive during the good season.

Horses

I learnt to ride properly in Germany at a dressage school near Hamburg.

Progressed to my own horse, a 17.2 hh 7/8ths thoroughbred. Entered some local show jumping and cross country events, also had a go at team chasing.

- Gee up dobbin

Injury Factor: 15% - its gonna hurt if 1/2 ton of horse lands on you
Expense Factor: 10% - most stables will provide a horse and basic kit but if your aiming at Badminton Horse Trials it can get very expensive.

Getting around a cross country course can be very satisfying and quite scary.
